A native of Kansas City, Kansas and the youngest of five children
born to Verne and Aljeane Burleson, Founder, and CEO, Lillian Y.
Bittaye, grew up in the heart of the inner city. She began her college
experience at Wichita State University. Lillian later transferred to
Donnely College where she received her Associates of Arts
Degree. She furthered her educational venue at Spelman College
where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood
Education. Later returning to Kansas City, Kansas, Lillian acquired
her Bachelor of Science Degree in Victim Services from the
Kansas City Kansas Community College. She is currently working
on her Master's Degree in Counseling at Capella University.
Before earning her degrees, Lillian became a Big Sister in 1977,
started a 24-hour registered day care home in 1980, and also
began substitute teaching in 1987. She became a licensed foster
parent, caring for approximately 15 foster children, after relocating to
Connecticut in 1989. Lillian also began planning Christmas parties
for foster, needy, and homeless children.
In 1993, after returning to her home state, Lillian officially
established her non-profit organization, Sojourner Truth
Observational Study Hometel Inc. She organized a Summer
Enrichment Program, which extended services to youth at-risk, by
way of an alternative school program for suspended students in
Wyandotte County. The Summer Enrichment Program, initially
designed for one summer, operated for three years. Later, she
began working for a Crime Prevention Agency, entitled the Ad Hoc
Group Against Crime, from 1995 - 1997. At that time, she received
a commission from God to search for missing persons and
runaway youth, in addition to continuing to provide educational
services to children and youth in need, from all walks of life.
Upon returning to Atlanta, Georgia for a second term in 2002, she
worked as a case manager for the Rockdale County DFACS, until
being hired to teach Kindergarten for 5 years, before deciding that
her mission had expanded to reaching children outside the
traditional four walls. Currently, she has launched a new venture
entitled "Tutoring By Webcam."
Our vision is to become the
number #1 global child
advocacy catalyst, while
providing year-round
educational assistance, as
well as a violence reduction
and mentoring program to
children, youth, and families
from all walks of life.
